[click to continue…]

running_210(updated  May 24th, 2009) Here are some nice phrases which you can print on your running shirt. I shamelessly copied many of them from the German Runner’s World forum. Others I have copied from the series of tubes/interweb. The German ones are at the bottom. Do you have cool sayings for running shirts? Use the comment function at the bottom!

Marathon/Long runs suitable - funny

  • “Before you run a marathon, you never really learn to curse.”
  • “Any idiot can run a marathon - it takes a special kind of idiot to run an ultramarathon.” - Alan Cabelly
  • “You don’t have to be an idiot to run a marathon. But it helps tremendously.”
  • “Friends Don’t Let Friends Run Marathons.”
  • “In my mind, I’m a Kenyan.” [click to continue…]

nachtlauf_blog_versionYesterday was the Cologne Night Run (10,5 km), the race was really cool, though in the beginning I had some trouble starting. I sometimes like to start way in the back and work myself to the front. This time I did so. From about 3000 participants, I was one of the last starters. What I didn’t anticipate was that there were so many narrow paths in the beginning. I had to wrestle my way through and on the stairs (there were a few of them) many people decided to walk up… slowly. So I lost a lot of time during the first 3-4 kms. After that it was getting better. In the end I finished in 53:04 (401st out of 1542 men), which is an average of 5:03min/km, which is only 6-7 secs/km faster than the average of my half marathon a few days earlier.

After running with my first running group this week, I’m thinking about joining another group which does a bit of harder training (including intervals). Let’s see. My weight was at 82,0 kg the next morning, which made me happy since I had something around 85,4 kg a week ago. (But I suppose this is mostly water weight and I think I ate a LOT last week when I weighed myself.)

Today I ran my first half marathon after the birch pollen allergy season, where I have to stay out of races for 4-6 weeks. After the vacation in Jakarta, Indonesia in January (it’s hard to find a running spot there) and some races in February and march, I had to stay out most of April and May - so I lost 11 whole minutes from my half marathon record of 1:38:33. I ran a 1:49:26… it was quite hill-y in small Paffendorf, but still 11 minutes is waaay too much. I guess not training as intensively has a huuuge effect. And I’ve gained 4 kgs since the last half marathon (due to vacations, exams, allergy season, work). [click to continue…]

4 Reasons why Wikipedia is a Man

by Oliver Adria on April 19, 2009

wikipedia_manHaving tweeted with @mueslikind, she said Wikipedia is a woman, while I think Wikipedia is a man. Here are 4 definitive reasons why it’s a man.

1. It thinks it knows everything.
It will spill its knowledge on anything, from Energy Policy Rulings to Luhmann’s system theory and everyday - apparently - it knows even more. Uhuh. [click to continue…]
